North Cove
is NYC's mega yacht marina.
We are located in front of the World Financial Center in Battery Park City,
Lower Manhattan. The marina is used by large and small yachts for
transient stays in the city as well as a sailing club and sailing school.
Being a Dock Master at North Cove is exciting and hard work. It is exciting to be in this atmosphere with all the great yachts. Some of the exciting job duties include catching the lines, assisting a tie up and helping a yacht plug in and power up. Some of the hard work duties include taking out the marina trash every day and night, fixing docks and dragging logs out of the marina. To be a successful Dock Master, you must be 100% punctual, reliable as well as capable. You need to have a farmer's work ethic. We are looking for people who are familiar with boats, with tying cleats and bowlines and with operating dinghies. We are also looking for people who understand how to use tools, from wrenches and screw drivers to hammer drills and pump out mechanisms. Dock Masters are scheduled so there is normally one dock master at the marina at a specific time. During this time, you will be in charge of the marina. This is why Dock Masters must be 100% punctual and dependable. As a mega yacht marina, Dock Masters must look the part. You must be clean-cut and very well presented with no tattoos, piercings or unusual features which do not fit in within the mega yacht environment. Dock Masters also communicate with yachts on a VHF Radio. You must be able to speak clearly, slowly and in a high quality manner. This is a serious job for serious people who like to achieve and are considering a career in the boating world. This is not a job for people who like slow pace or who are not self motivated. Dock Masters will be issued white North Cove polo shirts. The rest of the uniform which employees are responsible for are khaki pants or shorts and boating shoes. Dock Masters generally work 40 hours per week which includes one weekend day. The starting salary for this position is $15 per hour or $31,200 per year. Candidates work 40 hours per week and the weekly schedule includes one weekend day. This is an entry level position. The work is long and hard and you must be physically in top shape to succeed. Because this is a high-end marine environment, pre-employment drug testing is required and dock masters are enrolled in random drug testing.
