North Cove's
40° 42.75' N, 74° 01.06' W Taxi Directions: Tell the driver to take you to "Battery Park City, corner of Liberty St & South End Ave." Get out at this corner and walk west down the esplanade to North Cove. North Cove is located on the Hudson River at the southern tip of Manhattan. This neighborhood is called "Battery Park City." Battery Park City is frequently called the most beautiful urban environment in the country. It is 92 acres of landfill which were created when the foundations for the World Trade Centers were excavated beginning in the late 1960s. Battery Park City is a mix of office buildings, residential housing, retail stores and 35 acres of beautiful parks and open space.
When you walk through BPC and see the flowers and plantings, it is easy to forget you are in the heart of our nation's greatest city. The BPC community is linked together by a beautiful waterfront esplanade. On a warm day, the esplanade will be filled with people walking, running, roller blading and biking. People love strolling along the waterfront with the smell of Linden trees wafting through the air. Families especially like this community because of the parks and schools. This community has all the amenities and culture of the city without the traffic and noise. After the waterfront esplanade was built in BPC, it was so critically acclaimed that it has been extended north through the Hudson River Park and around most of Manhattan. New Yorkers who live on the Upper West Side can get on their bicycles and ride in comfort all the way down to the tip of Manhattan. Everyone's favorite stop along the waterfront is North Cove. It is the crown jewel of the Manhattan waterfront. Many people refer to North Cove as "Monaco on the Hudson." When people come to North Cove, they smile. You can look out over the rail and see some of the most beautiful yachts in the world. You can also see boats available to the public such as a sailing school and charter boats.
The centerpiece of the World Financial Center is the famous Winter Garden. This glass atrium is home to a grove of royal palm tress. There is also shopping inside, plus restaurants, coffee and pastry shops. The public spaces within the World Financial Center are luxurious marble from Italy. A few blocks from North Cove is the trendiest neighborhood in Manhattan, Tribeca. Robert DeNiro is the unofficial celebrity spokesman and the driving force behind the Tribeca Film Festival. Tribeca has some of the best restaurants in the city and the residential real estate is now the most expensive in Manhattan. Just a few blocks away from North Cove are other interesting and historic communities, including Wall Street, City Hall, South Street Seaport and Chinatown. |
