North Cove Management

Day to day management of North Cove is handled by Commodore Michael Fortenbaugh.

The Commodore reintroduced recreational sailing to New York Harbor back in 1987 when he founded the Manhattan Sailing Club.  This has grown to the largest sailing organization active in the harbor.  The Commodore has also founded the Manhattan Sailing School and the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation.

He was a competitive sailor in the Laser and E-Scow classes before moving to New York City after graduating from Princeton University in 1985.

During the summer, you will often see the Commodore walking around the marina, helping to tie up yachts and delivering the 100-foot rule prizes.  In the evenings, he is frequently out entertaining on the clubhouse in the harbor or sailing on Dennis Conner's Formula 1s or the 12 Meter "America II."
